Zain Hyder Shah -2k14 MC104                                                                                                                                             Have you ever heard the Taj Mahal of Sindh?                                                                                                                  The World is pre-occupied with love Stories, romance and heart touching monuments of love. The symbol of love Taj Mahal is enlist in the seven wonders on the earth. Shahjahan built it for his second wife. This article is somehow relevant to this story.  Many feudalists had spent very large amount of money in making the monuments for their love and long lasting passion. Some has become very well know and others were folded in the dark pages of the history and still hidden from the masses.                                                                                                                                               Sindh is remarkably a beautiful Province of Pakistan. There are ancient remains in this region by the mankind some has built Moen jo Daaro and Ranikot but some has built a monument of love like Mir Khuda Bux Talpur as known as Mir Lambert has, which is still not known in the masses. Talpurs invaded Sindh in 1783 and are still the rich feudalist of this region. Mir Lambert one of the richest land owner of 30,000 acres in 1920s’ visited Jodhpur in India he was so overwhelmed by the creativity of infrastructure of the Monuments there. On his visit of Jodhpur he encountered the Mahal which was of the brother of Queen Jodha, after his visit of India he was in rush to build a Mahal similar like Taj Mahal and a Palace of Jodhpur for his second wife Saheba and wanted it to be the symbol of love forever but Unfortunately it has been the symbol of ancient devastating remain because of the less interest of the State in renovating this beautiful Monument well it has lost its value.

Have you ever heard about the Taj Mahal of Sindh? Taking you to this ancient Mahal which was considered the Taj Mahal of Sindh in 1940s
Saheb Mahal is situated in Khadaro a small town some 60 Kilometers away from Badin. This Mahal hasn’t yet lost the true essence of it. The entrance door of Mahal is 70 years old and the wood is damaged but still it gives a suitable image of Mahal. The Saheb Mahal is no doubt an amazing creativity of hands. This white Palace has two tombs on the both ends and the wood which has been used inside the Mahal is still shining. There is a sculpture of Taj Mahal on the entrance of Mahal. In my first glance from inside it was giving me a feeling of Bengali build houses because of the colorful windows and they enhance the beauty of inside out. The tiles of that time are still very fine without any damage.

According to the old natives of this area the labors came from India to build this beautiful Monument. The wood and the furniture were imported from Belgium. The time of 1940s there were no railway track and roads which connects the Metropolitan cities to this small town of Khadaro so all the stuffs came through ships.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          This beautiful monument is pre occupied with the beauty of its uniqueness. There is a narrow pathway on the top of the walls which connects Mir Lambert’s room to the swimming pool but now it is just a devastated pathway and also there is an underpass way from his Mahal to the bath which in that time made for his daughters and wives and now it is filled with filthy water only.

According to the old native sayings he lived like a King. There was an area for Panchayat in Mahal where he does proceedings and declare the verdicts, the two pillars and symbol of justice outside the ground of Mahal is proof. There is something interesting in this Mahal like Taj Mahal the Saheb Mahal is also built for second wife of Mir Lambert and also there is a grave here which is situated on the first floor but what differentiate these two Mahal?  This grave is of his daughter and the Mahal is on the name of his wife, sayings are because he loved his daughter a lot and she died in very young age so this could be the reason. The Mahal is built in the center of the beautiful fields and a beautiful view can be seen on the roof in sun rise and sunset with the natural fragrance of fields. Devi outside the Mahal and neem trees inside are making it look more beautiful.
Many stories, fantasy are related to this Mahal. Some describe Mir as Villain and others consider him as very honest judge. Ali Ahmed Shah Rashdi also wrote about him in his book ohwa diyen ohwa shiyen Part II. Whatsoever, the stories are but this fine architecture is no doubt an amazement of human creativity. Mir Lambert’s grandson Mir Ali Akbar Talpur is now a caretaker of this Mahal but because of the less interest it has become the damage Palace with no renovation. Culture department should pay the price of property and undertake this property to renovate this heritage Palace because of the infrastructure of the Mahal has a much importance regarding the historical aspect and also according to the cultural and archaeological fields.

This practical work was carried under supervision of Sir Sohail Sangi
